I'm going to purchase a GE washer and a dryer. Each will be around ,200 a piece.
I'm not much into extended warranties, but with the new style fancy washer and dryer (both front loading) with many electronics, I'm a little concerned. Especially the washer.
Would you recommend it? It does come with 1 year limited parts labor warranty and I am buying from a trusted local business that I have dealt with before.

Most "Experts" agree that an extended warranty only benefits the store. (extra money for them) If you are going to have problems with your new appliance, they say it usually occurs AFTER your extended warranty runs out. Of course, there are always exceptions, but in the majority of instances, no, you do not need an extended warranty. I had problems with a new dryer I purchased about 4 years ago. The repairman came out numerous times while the original warranty was still in effect, but he could never figure out the problem. I had not purchased an extended warranty and my original warranty was about to run out. I finally went to the store where I had purchased the dryer and showed the appliance department manager documentation of all the times the repairman had come out. He didn’t even argue with me, and told me they would replace it with a new dryer, which they did immediately. No problems since.
I probably would not purchase the warranty. For the most part, if it works a year, it will continue to do so for many years. Good luck with your decision.
no. the biggest ripoff in retail is extended warranties.I’ve read innumerous business magazines over the years that it is basically a scam and a bad investment. the sad thing is no matter who you buy from or how friendly the seller is; when it is time for them to push the warranty it often spoils the good feeling the buyer may have had. It has happened to me many times and I finally learned to simply shake my head when they "go there" Once you get ina discussion with a salesman about the ext. warr. you really see how bad they want you to buy it because it is almost always pure profit for them.
all depends on the price of the warranty
I wouldn’t! It has the one year and if it’s a bad unit it will go out way before that year. That’s how they make money….selling the extended warranties.
The warranty will most likely cost more then the repairs which will be needed in the first five years or so. 90% of these units get a service call in the first 5 yrs. Another thing to consider is you may have to wait 2-4 weeks for warranty service to get it fixed. This is because sub contractors are paid under market value for service, so the COD calls get priority
The avg repair cost on these are under $300.00 in most cases. When its a main control board it can reach double that.
