I purchased a house with appliances included. The 2006 electric Whirlpool Estate Dryer looks brand new (very little lint even in the trap). First time running it blew my 220 line fuse (just thought it was an old fuse). After replacing it dryer went a full cycle fine. The next load after that never shut off (timer never counted down and it ran all night). We thought we could live with that and just monitor it. Now there is no heat either but it still runs, again without counting down. Is this just one part that is affecting this (timer unit) or is the heating unit involved or is it something completely different. Just a service call will be , when at least the timer unit looks easy to replace. If it is possibly something else it might be worth just buying a new dryer? Can anyone help identify the issue and give recommendations?
It was mentioned on t.v. last night that stores are going to do the appliance for clunker thing. OK...if you decide to trade your old appliance in remember especially if the salesperson is wowrking on commission they will tell you anything you want to hear. "This is the best appliance, my aunt/mom has these OH they are great"...then what you do if you do decide to buy it call the 800# on the side of the box if there is one, and check so see what kind of service you are going to get AFTER THE STORE GETS YOUR MONEY....also before you pay up,. call a few repair shops ask them what they think of this paticular appliance, ask if there ARE repairmen available to repair such a model, if parts are readily available. I ALMOST bought LPs washer and dryer but called the 800# first.....GLAD I did, the company is located in Canada I spoke to a guy that works for LP he stated the company KNOWS there is a real shortage of repairmen for LP appliances. I found one company and ONLY one to do repair work, they said it will take up to 6 weeks to get parts and a service call will be 5.00...and that was just for a service call. The meter starts running soon as he starts working on the machine...needless to say I did not buy that pair.
