While drying clothes last night, the dryer works except for the heating part. It is an electric GE dryer which my wife and I purchased about 7 years ago. I am assuming that there is a part that needs to be replaced which is the heating element of some sort. Am I correct? What could the problem be and how much might it cost to fix? Is it worth fixing or will it be less expensive to just buy a new one? Thanks in advance.

If its a fuse panel, 1 fuse can be out and the heater isn’t getting the required voltage.
Replacing the heater is very easy to do. -$40.00

You need to replace your heating element. You are looking at about $120.00 to have someone come out, and fix it.
Yes, heating element. If you can fix it yourself its under $75 most times, to have someone else do it is much more due to an hourly rate. It only takes about 45 min to change but to hire someone you pay for at least an hour sometimes more.
First of all check at the back of the machine for a rest button – I know it sounds strange but ours has one.
Other than that it depends how technically minded you are, are you the sort of person who would open it up and tinker with it or the sort who would like someone else to do it ?
If the heating element is broken and it’s the curly type it is possible to repair it yourself ( I have done it a couple of times) but bear in mind that the wire gets hot and this makes it go brittle so it will break again sooner or later.
Check out your manuel.
If indeed it is the heat element, you can purchase it yourself, and put it in. Alot less costly!

Have you checked the exhaust? It could be clogged with lint, thus not allowing your clothes to dry. Just a thought, and easy to check first, before spending any money!
in most GE dryers they have a fuse, or a thermostat tied in series with the heating element, ive changed myself so many fuses and thermostats in those things its unbeliveable. id advise calling a service technician, he will adquetly beable to narrow it down.
