it would help if you told us the brand of dryer you had. you may have broken the switch, or some type of "lever" action plunger, it all depends on what you have on your brand dryer.find the model# tag on it, most likely it is in the door opening, but it could be on the side or the back. then take that model # with you to your local appliance parts store and have them look up what you broke. while you’re there you can pick their brains as to how you would go about taking apart the dryer so that you can replace the part. depending on how handy you are, and strong, you’d have to pull the dryer out from the wall and unplug the power cord before you do anything. once you get it apart take a minute and get familiar with how the wires hook up to the switch and how it would be removed. look for numbers or letters on the switches so that you replace them in the correct location. be careful not to get mixed up by turning things around and over while you are replacing it, too. if this sounds beyond your abilities, then it would be best to call a repairman, but it won’t be cheap. in order to insure that he has the part to fix it when he comes out, give him your model # and tell him exactly which switch it is, read it right off of the backsplash as it’s labeled on the dryer. no sense in paying for a second trip to get it fixed. it may also be a good idea to ask around of friends, family, and co workers for who they would reccomend for a serviceman. well, hope this helps, good luck.
Yes – call you local appliance repair store or if it’s new call the store you bought it from they can order one – may even have one – until then – steal one of the other ones – carefully switch them back and forth.
Wait the POST BROKE?? Appliance repair men – sorry
As both 1 and 2 state, Appliance repair shop, AND/OR a shop that services washers and dryers, perhaps even your particular brand. Sears Service locations and warehouse sales outlets might be one place to start.
We can’t know the method of attachment on the knob post, IE: a circular shape with a flat spot for the hole in the post, or a spring/grip type hole that Wedges onto the shaft on the appliance. You may not find the exact style of knob, but taking the broken PARTS to such shops, is likely to yield what will work.
