Amber N asked:
Dryer is 2 years old and was barely used by grandparents during that time and then given to us. On the lowest heat setting (for delicates) it is burning up, or melting parts of our clothes. I have tried only running it on the last 20 minutes of the cycle, during the "cool down" part, but it still burns. I always change the lint trap, and my husband got all new hoses, etc for it when we installed, so they should not be clogged. I know it is a fire hazard issue, but don't have money for new dryer. Could it be something simple like replacing a heating element or thermostat?

sounds like the thermostat buttons are shot replace them they are in the back there should be 2 of them its recommended to do both if 1 goes bad the other is not far behind. good luck!
There is a part called a “Thermister” that needs to be installed. This part stops the overheating and was not installed on the dryers when they are sold new.
Frigidaire made a whole series of dryers with the overheating problem between 2006 and 2008—I know, because I have one of them. I complained to Frigidaire (Electrolux) and they are replacing mine for free even though my dryer is out of warranty. In fact, I bought 5 matching Frigidaire applainces in 2007 as part of our extensive remodel—all new stainless appliances for our kitchen and an expensive frontloading washer/dryer set for our laundry room. All 5 appliances broke right after the warranty expired—they are all less than 2 years old.
I tried to sort it out with the company with no luck initially. Then I wrote a long nasty complaint letter to Consumer Affairs magazine and also to the Better Business Bureau. Consumer Affairs published my letter in their magazine and also on the home page of their website. 3 days after it was published, a Vice President for Electrolux contacted me and offered to repair all 5 appliances for free. Cool, huh?
You can read hundreds of complaints about Frigidaire washers and dryers on ConsumerAffairs.com at this link…..my complaint is in there somewhere too (Melanie from FL):
The dryer issues are mainly overheating problems and snagging clothes. You can see from all the bad reviews that yours is not the only problem. Do what I did and write the company, the BBB, and Consumer Affairs. The washers and dryers are all cheaply made in China and fell apart after two years.
Don’t hold your breath though….I made my complaint in October 2009 and we are still waiting on parts for some of the appliances we complained about—they are all on back order—probably because of all the complaints and needed repairs.
Good luck.
I have a repair manual that shows how to access the dryer and replace the faulty thermister:
